| Captain Sullenberger was the pilot, who along with his crew, successfully guided the crippled A320 to a successful water landing, saving 155 passengers. The plane suffered a double engine flame out during the initial climb-out phase, as a result of bird strike.
At the Airline Pilot Association Awards Ceremony, Sully the pilot said: "Those of us who have chosen this profession as a life, have answered a noble calling. We have promised that we will prepare ourselves well, that we will exercise great care of every flight, that we will not become complacent, the we will remain vigilant, and that we will act as the conscience of the industry.
"We do these things for three reasons:
- Our passengers deserve it - Our colleagues expect it - Our profession demands it"

Certainly an inspirational speech!

Reading his autobiography also provided me with new dimensions on how to attain the right attitude if you want to work in this industry. The captain got an important point - his successful water landing, apart from benefiting from the right conditions, was also due to years of mental preparedness on various safety aspects of flight, as well as human capabilities and limitations. Through that critical three minutes and more, he put everything to the test, and emerged victorious.
Winners go to those who prepared themselves properly.
Certainly a good book that I fully recommend, not only to the aviation enthusiast, but also to anyone who wants to learn from wisdom.
Precisely it is speeches as such that urges me to work hard, in hope to be part of this group one day.
